The 5k Aquabox Challenge. The result!

In July, employees from across the AVK UK Group committed to running or walking 5km each day to raise much-needed funds for Aquabox, the Group’s charity partner.

Sponsored by fellow employees, family and friends the participants raised £2,000 which will enable Aquabox to provide 60 family water filters to those affected by extreme weather or conflict around the world. Each Aquabox filter turns half a million litres of water into safe drinking water.

Wilson McPhail, Business Manager AVK UK Water Projects, is one of AVK’s Aquabox Ambassadors tasked with providing help and support to Aquabox and its volunteers:

‘The Aquabox 5k-a-day Challenge proved extremely popular across all areas of the business. In total 37 employees, aided and abetted by several canine companions, took part. Feedback from those taking part was extremely positive and it has been decided to make the 5k-a-day Challenge an annual event.’

Justine Dronfield, PA to the Chairman, was one of those that completed the challenge:

‘I’m really glad I participated in what was a great team effort. Most days were really enjoyable as I was out with my dog Betty. It was harder on days when I’d been sitting at the computer all day and had to make up the shortfall in the evening. Knowing that it was for such a great cause was a huge motivator.’

Kevin Barclay is an Aquabox Trustee and heads up Aquabox’s engagement with the corporate sector:

'AVK is one of our first and most active corporate partners. We are a volunteer organisation so there are no assembly costs, but we need to raise funds for filter components and to cover shipping costs.'

It appears to me that the whole AVK team is engaged in supporting Aquabox in one way or another. We are particularly grateful to AVK for giving their Aquabox Ambassadors the time to share their skills with us so we can improve across all areas of our operations.’

This initiative alone has raised more than 50% of the company’s full-year fundraising target!
