Meet Huzzy

Huzaifah Ahmed Saleem, known to everyone as Huzzy, has just completed his first year as Technical Sales & Support Engineer with AVK UK Smart Water. The role was Huzzy’s first job after graduating with a Masters degree in Mechanical Electronics Systems Engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University.

‘When I joined AVK UK Smart Water back in August 2021 I didn’t know anything about the company or the water industry. The first few months were very challenging as I had so much to learn about the industry, the customers and, of course, AVK’s portfolio of smart water products.

I was recruited by AVK UK's Smart Water specialists, who taught me a lot during my first year, and have always been available to answer any questions I have. I started out by shadowing the team in commercial and technical dealings with customers and gradually started to gain an understanding of the challenges faced by the water companies and how we could help them.

I think the big breakthrough for me came when I visited Italy and Denmark for in-depth product training. Being alongside engineers who had years of experience in the development and implementation of VIDI smart water sensors and pressure management devices (PMD) was a great privilege.

At first, with the team's support, I was given some clean and wastewater pilot projects to handle. I am now managing projects of my own including a VIDI sensor installation for South West Water and ARISENSE wastewater air valves for Yorkshire Water. It is rewarding to have developed the skills and knowledge to work independently, although I appreciate there is still lots to learn.

In my second year I am hoping to take on more responsibilities such as managing the VIDI programme, and to move more into the technical side of the business. I’ve also started the three-year journey to achieving CEng (Chartered Engineer) status which involves keeping a detailed diary of my work activities and training.

I think it’s going to be another exciting year.’

Glasgow born and bred, Huzzy is a big Celtic fan. A regular visitor to the gym and a keen footballer, Huzzy plays as a striker in his local team in Glasgow.
