AVK UK Host Strategic Pipeline Alliance Open Day
AVK UK recently hosted an open day with the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) engineering team who are tasked with delivering a £400m infrastructure project designed to increase the resilience of Anglian Water resources. 03-02-2023
The Anglian Water region has the lowest rainfall of any UK water company. To increase the resilience of Anglian’s water resources, SPA is constructing a network of interconnecting pipes. These pipes will allow water to be moved across the region to where they are most needed.
The SPA team visiting AVK UK consisted of engineers from Anglian Water, Mott Macdonald Bentley, Costain, Farrans and Jacobs. The SPA group are leading the project, which is set to take five years to complete and is also one of the largest in the UK.
The UK Manufacturing Home of Gate Valves and Underground Hydrants
AVK Aqua Gas Manufacturing (AGMC) facility in Corby, hosted the day which consisted of a series of product presentations and insights along with a tour of the AGMC manufacturing site, home of AVK UK’s hydrant range and resilient seated gate valves.
The visit was hosted by Huzaifah Ahmed Saleem, Project Engineer - Smart Water, supported by other AVK Product Managers.
AVK is renowned for the breadth of its product offer, from butterfly valves to check valves, air valves to hydrants, and all variations in-between. The workhorse is the gate valve and the technical presentation focused primarily on two variants: the Series 29 sandwich gate valve and the Series 36/89 gate valve with PE tails.
The sandwich gate valve is primarily used as an isolation valve for through-bore hydrants. Its build quality and performance characteristics, in particular the ease of operation on site were well received by the delegates.
The key benefit of the Series 36/89 is its ease and speed of installation on site. No need for mechanical fittings; the ability to deliver a fully-welded system; simpler logistics for the SPA team, and more.

AVK Smart Water Valves and Sensors
Huzaifah ‘Huzzy’ Saleem is a key member of the AVK UK Smart Water team. Huzzy explained how AVK’s VIDI sensors and smart water valves enable engineers to monitor their network in real time based on pressure, flow, temperature, and other data communicated by the sensors. In its simplest form, a VIDI positioning sensor informs engineers whether a valve is open, closed or in an intermediate position without having to visit site.
