AVK UK fundraising for Aquabox Charity

AVK in the UK raises over £500 for Aquabox

The AVK UK teams in Northampton and Corby recently raised over £500 for Aquabox, the charity whose water filters bring clean water to those affected by natural disasters and man-made conflicts.

James Pick is a Business Development Manager for Atlantic Plastics (a member of the AVK group of companies). James is also one of the five Aquabox Ambassadors tasked with helping Aquabox address some of the key challenges it faces. James, with the support of Customer Service Manager, Tracy Ellson at the Nothampton office, and Lisa Sirett, Susan Berry and Steph Walters from AVK's Aqua-Gas manufacturing facility in Corby, arranged the five-mile sponsored ‘Walk for Water’ to raise funds for Aquabox.

In line with the ‘Walk for Water’ theme, the Northampton team's walk took in the River Nene Navigation, Hardingstone Dyke, a flood reservoir and Delapre Lake. The area around Delapre Lake is widely believed to the site of the Battle of Northampton, a major battle in the War of the Roses. Taking place in 1460, the battle led to the capture of King Henry VI by the Yorkist forces. So it could be said, that the AVK UK team were walking in the footsteps of royalty!

According to Tracy:

‘We were blessed with lovely weather for the walk, and a couple of walkers brought along their pet dogs for moral support. Just by chance, the walk finished at a pub for liquid refreshments!
The work Aquabox does to provide clean water to families surviving in appalling conditions is inspiring. The alternative, in many cases, is to drink heavily polluted water with potentially disastrous consequences.’

Lisa, Susan and Steph in Corby hiked 5-miles round Wicksteed Park in Kettering…on a Sunday: now, that’s commitment! Quickest round (probably!) was Steph’s greyhound, Silver. Silver even sported an AVK endorsement on her harness.

Employees across AVK UK, Glenfield Invicta, Fusion Group and Atlantic Plastics, AVK’s brands in the UK, are committed to raising funds to help Aquabox’s volunteers continue their humanitarian work.

The support for Aquabox is just one of many charity activities undertaken across AVK’s businesses in the UK. Collectively these activities are an integral part of our Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability commitments.

Did you know?

Wicksteed Park was created in 1921. The land for the park was bought by Charles Wicksteed, famous for the playground equipment that bears his name. If you love playgrounds, you’ve almost certainly been on a Wicksteed slide.
