AVK UK Partners with Aquabox to Provide Clean Water and Aid 27-01-2025
In 2024, the AVK UK Group of Companies (Atplas, AVK UK, Fusion, and Glenfield Invicta Ltd), organised a charity walk (Walk4Water) in support of our UK nominated cross-business charity Aquabox. As well as bringing colleagues together socially, Walk4Water raised funds for this amazing charity.
Whenever a natural disaster occurs in the world, such as an earthquake or flooding, or in times of armed conflict, displaced people often have little choice other than to collect water from whatever local sources they can find, such as streams, rivers, and random wells. These sources of water are often contaminated, unsafe to drink, and carry the risk of water-borne diseases like cholera.
In the UK, the population are extremely privileged to have a constant supply of treated potable water, and it can be extremely difficult to imagine the trauma and difficulties faced by those in need of access to safe drinking water. The last indigenous case of cholera in England, for example, was in 1893 - over 130 years ago.
Since the charity was established back in 1992, Aquabox has despatched over 125,000 water filters to disaster areas and conflict zones in over 50 different countries across the world. These filters have converted approximately 2bn litres of contaminated water into safe, clean drinking water.
As a collective result of all the activities and participation from AVK employees in the UK, the Walk4Water initiative has raised over £6k for Aquabox.
Roger Cassidy, Aquabox Chair Trustees, on receiving the donation during a presentation with AVK UK Director, Paul Jennings, said: “The AVK donation will make a real difference and will allow us to provide 20 community filters and 25 family filters when we next respond to a disaster. These filters will be able to meet all the water needs for over 10,000 people – truly a gift of life.”
WALK4WATER - AVK in the UK Fund Raising
Over the spring and summer months of 2024, AVK colleagues across the UK donned their walking attire, dress appropriately for the good old UK weather, and set forth on a mission to raise funds and promote Aquabox, as well as getting their steps in!
As you can see from the images above all had a good time, when not having to brace the various meteorological conditions, but it would take more than a shower to dampen the spirits! And as you can see, some even had to apply the sun cream!
